Pittsburgh Steelers has just end uncertainty about head coach Mike Tomlin’s fate
The head coach will be with the franchise until at least 2027.
The Pittsburgh Steelers and Mike Tomlin have opted to continue their fruitful alliance. This Monday, the head coach signed a three-year contract extension that keeps him on the team until at least 2027. The financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
In a statement posted on the team’s website, Art Rooney II, president and owner, stated, “Mike Tomlin’s leadership and commitment to the Steelers have been pivotal to our success during his first 17 years as head coach.”
Rooney stated, “Extending his contract for three more years reflects our confidence in his ability to guide the team back to winning playoff games and championships while continuing our tradition of success.”
Tomlin joined the Steelers in 2007, having previously played for several collegiate and NFL clubs. Before to Pittsburgh, he was the Minnesota Vikings’ defensive coordinator. Tomlin succeeded Bill Cowher, who had spent 15 seasons with the franchise.

In pursuit of a new championship.
In the same statement, Tomlin expressed gratitude to the team’s management, particularly Rooney, “for his support during my first 17 years in Pittsburgh.”
The coach made it clear that “we are continuing to work diligently to get back to where we belong – sustained playoff success with the ultimate goal of winning the franchise’s seventh Lombardi Trophy.”
He additionally stated, “I am very excited to get the 2024 season underway and provide our fans with a memorable year.”

Tomlin’s numbers
Mike Tomlin
is only the Steelers’ third head coach since the NFL’s inception. The other two were the renowned Chuck Noll (1969-1991) and Cowher (1992–2006). This indicates that stability at the helm is one of the most important criteria for the team’s management.
Tomlin’s regular-season record in Pittsburgh is 173 wins, 100 defeats, and two ties. He has never experienced a losing season in his 17 years as team captain. That is the third-longest winning season streak by any coach in NFL history.
Under his leadership, the Steelers have won seven AFC North championships, 11 postseason games, and two Super Bowl appearances. They won the XLIII 27-23 against the Arizona Cardinals, but lost the XLV 25-31 to the Green Bay Packers.
