Update on Joe Burrow’s injury: Cincinnati Bengals coach provides startling details
The Cincinnati Bengals and Joe Burrow suffered a severe blow. A ruptured ligament in his right wrist has ended the great quarterback’s season, Cincinnati’s coach Zac Taylor revealed on Friday.
The injury happened in the first half of the Bengals’ 34-20 “Thursday Night Football” loss to the Ravens, and the NFL is now looking into it.
The NFL is scrutinizing Burrow’s omission from the week’s injury reports and a now-deleted video posted on X that showed the quarterback wearing what seemed to be a brace on his hand.
Jake Browning will replace Burrow as the Bengals’ starting quarterback.
Hours after Burrow left the Bengals’ 34-20 loss to the Baltimore Ravens in the second quarter, an MRI on Friday morning indicated the extent of his injuries. With 5:49 left, Burrow threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to Joe Mixon before bending down in apparent distress.
Burrow reported that he was unconscious when he felt a pop in his wrist during the TD pass.
Burrow claimed that backup Jake Browning reminded him a lot of himself. Browning and Burrow are close friends, and Burrow spent some of his Friday afternoon viewing films together to help get him ready to start next week.

Both Burrow and coach Zac Taylor predicted surgery would be necessary for the ailment. Burrow departed the game in the second quarter of the Bengals’ 34-20 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday night, after he had given the team a brief 10-7 lead with a 4-yard touchdown pass to Joe Mixon. After the pass, Burrow crumpled into a ball of pain and gripped his wrist.
He stated on Friday that the injury most likely occurred during the previous play, when he was hit by Jadeveon Clowney after tossing a 9-yard pass to Mixon and came down on his wrist. Burrow said that until he watched a video of the play, he was unaware that he had fallen on his wrist.
