Sheffield Wednesday has been quite busy in the month that has followed their final day of survival, and they are just one day away from the summer transfer window starting.
Will Vaulks has left the Owls, and they appear to be getting close to signing a number of new players.
Danny Rohl has acknowledged that although things appear to be going well on the outside, they are “not easy” this summer.
In an interview with Training Ground Guru Podcast, the German stated: “The market is difficult right now. However, we already have a few solid players in mind. We just need to persuade them and work to acquire them so that, ideally, our team will be stronger than it was the previous year.
The players they have been linked with are of much higher quality than those they have signed in the past, with Max Lowe one name that would have been unlikely to join the Owls previously – even if he hadn’t played for the Blades.
It will be a concern if Wednesday struggle elsewhere in the transfer market though, as they are going to need to compete financially with their Championship rivals if they are to have any chance at becoming a stable club in the second tier.
Danny Rohl’s side are most likely to struggle to sign a striker, as it seems like every summer that most clubs are targeting the same proven goalscorer. Last summer saw the likes of Tom Cannon and Ellis Simms arrive in the Championship at inflated prices – something the Owls won’t be prepared to get involved with.
Following the news that Sheffield Wednesday had agreed to pay Yan Valery, it appears that Danny Rohl is almost done signing three more players.
Sheffield Wednesday should have a successful postseason if free agents Ben Hamer and Max Lowe decide to relocate to Hillsborough this summer.
The Owls are keeping a close eye on a number of other players, as well. According to recent rumours, Sheffield Wednesday is still in communication with Ovie Ejaria, a free agent who was released by Reading in December 2023.
