During the Sheffield Wednesday match, a man was detained for allegedly making a racial gesture against Kasey Palmer of Coventry City.
The claimed abuse happened during the latter moments of Coventry City’s 2-1 triumph over Sheffield Wednesday.
Following allegations that Coventry City football player Kasey Palmer was the target of racist taunts during Sheffield Wednesday’s Championship match at Hillsborough, a man has been taken into custody.
The alleged incident happened in the closing seconds of City’s Saturday night (January 20) 2-1 triumph over Wednesday. In the match footage that was shown on Sky, Palmer could be seen gesturing to the audience and telling the referee that he had been the target of monkey gestures.
Palmer was also hurled a bottle from the crowd as she was filing this report. Police in South Yorkshire are looking into the claims of abuse. Since then, the man has been freed on bond.

The FA Cup fourth round match between Coventry and Wednesday is scheduled to take place at Hillsborough tomorrow at 7:45 p.m. According to our sister website Coventry Live, Coventry manager Mark Robins has stated that he fully supports his players standing up and leaving the pitch in the event that there is racial abuse.
South Yorkshire Police issued the following statement: “A man has been arrested following a racially aggravated public order offence at the Sheffield Wednesday FC and Coventry FC match last weekend (20 January).
“There are claims that a Coventry FC player suffered racial taunts during the game. We are still conducting our investigation in close collaboration with Coventry FC and Sheffield Wednesday FC.
“Anyone with information can report concerns to club officials and officers who will be present on the day. We do not tolerate hate crime or disorder.” Since then, the individual has been freed on police bail.
