CLEMSON: Wide receiver Dacari Collins appeared to be losing patience in addition to playing less time.
The sophomore’s departure from the team this week and his choice to use the transfer portal were discussed by Clemson football coach Dabo Swinney during his news conference on Wednesday. Collins, who had a lot of action in the final weeks of the previous season and started three games, only saw 12 plays in the 48-20 victory over Louisiana Tech this past week.
Fifth-ranked Clemson (3-0, 1-0 ACC) plays Saturday (noon, ABC) at No. 16 Wake Forest (3-0, 0-0).
“Guys aren’t patient much anymore,” Swinney said. “That’s the world we live in.”
Collins, a 6-foot-4, four-star recruit from Atlanta, played 63 snaps this season with one catch for eight yards. Last season, he had 16 catches for 221 yards, including six-catch games against UConn and in the Cheez-It Bowl victory against Iowa State. He made his first career start against Wake Forest.
“Great kid. Really talented player,” Swinney said. “Has a bright future. Just got to continue to mature and grow and really commit to being the best he can be. He can do it for sure. … I wish him well.”

The running back and two-time ACC Player of the Year acknowledged Monday in his first interview since announcing his somewhat surprising decision to return for his senior season he knew the day after Clemson’s Jan. 13 loss in the national championship he was coming back. He waited four days until the deadline to let everybody else know.
Etienne, who turned 21 less than two weeks after that LSU defeat, has never displayed a desire for the spotlight or any form of grandstanding in withholding news that would turn Tigers fans giddy.
