Adam Pietila, a forward who was once recruited by Northern Michigan, announced on social media on Sunday that he is moving to the Badgers men’s hockey team.
Pietila, 21, played 61 games with the Youngstown Phantoms in the USHL past season, recording 48 points (24 goals, 24 assists). His plus-minus at the end of the year was plus-8. In seven playoff contests, he also netted three goals. Pietila played for the Bismark Bobcats of the NAHL for the previous two seasons.
Throughout the course of his 111 games with the Bobcats, Pietila scored 83 points (42 goals, 41 assists) and had a plus-minus of plus-21 for the two seasons, including a plus-20 campaign in 2022–2023. Pietila was an outstanding student at Hartland High School in his hometown of Howell, Michigan.
Pietila accessed the transfer portal following the resignation of Northern Michigan coach Grant Potulny last week. Potulny left for a professional job, most likely as the AHL’s Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Penguins coach. Pietila will suit up for Mike Hastings and the Badgers instead.
