Patriots ink rookie wide receiver; all 2024 draft selections are now signed
The New England Patriots have formally locked up their draft class for 2024.
On Thursday, Ja’Lynn Polk signed his first contract. The Washington wide receiver was selected in the second round. Two days after Polk had his best minicamp practice, the news was released.
Before the Patriots pause until training camp starts next month, Polk showed positive growth after a relatively quiet OTAs. During 7-on-7 drills, Polk caught two touchdowns.
Veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett told reporters on Tuesday, “Oh man, I think the good thing about a lot of our young guys is they’re understanding what we’re asking them to do. Polk, for example, he made so many plays in the red zone today-like big, strong catches.” “He’s beginning to do that consistently, which is what we need him to accomplish. He is becoming more proficient in this offence.
Patriots coach Jerod Mayo also praised Polk for putting in extra work.
Polk will be tasked with filling a void the Patriots had at wide receiver, and he’ll look to have a strong training camp as he tries to make an impact on the team in Year 1.
Although signing quarterback Colin Kaepernick is a “long shot,” that hasn’t stopped rumours about a possible matchup between the two teams from circulating. One former Patriot claimed that Kaepernick’s inclusion wouldn’t create any distractions in Bill Belichick’s locker room.
Former Patriots linebacker Rob Ninkovich noted during his Monday appearance on ESPN’s “Get Up!” that Belichick’s ability to unite the team usually removes any possible distractions in Foxborough.
