“I hope it turns out not to be serious”: Tiger-Cats are waiting on Justin McGriff’s injury report.
Justin McGriff, a possible starter in the Hamilton Tiger-Cats’ receiving group, may be sidelined for a while after suffering an injury that forced him to leave practice. The large target had an MRI on Wednesday morning, but it’s still unclear how serious the damage is.
Head coach Scott Milanovich said, “I don’t know at this point,” to the Hamilton media. “Everyone is worried. It was the other leg, not the same one as the previous year. It appeared to be a slight hyperextension. I went to see him afterward since he was so unhappy. Everyone is crossing their fingers and hoping for the best.
In a matter of weeks, the Utah State graduate went from being a relative unknown to one of the standouts of training camp the previous season. During camp, he showed promise by making a game-high four receptions for 58 yards versus Toronto in a great preseason game when he largely played with the first team offence.
But the six-foot-six receiver suffered a complicated fracture to his right tibia in an off-field incident shortly before the regular season started, forcing him to miss the whole 2023 campaign.
McGriff made more progress than anticipated and returned to the field for the first few days of training camp this year as well as rookie camp. Milanovich stated that the organisation anticipated him to compete for the starting spot at boundary wide receiver, which was held by the recently released Terry Godwin the previous season.
The head coach acknowledged that “he was certainly a part of that process.” He was one of a few men who stood a strong chance of being hired on as starters. I’m hoping it turns out to be nothing major and that we can quickly get him back.
