Taulia Tagovailoa Signs with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the CFL
Following trials with several NFL clubs, Taulia Tagovailoa, a UDFA quarterback, signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the CFL.
With NFL mandatory minicamps underway, Taulia Tagovailoa has not landed on a roster. As a result, the former Maryland quarterback is signing with the Canadian Football League’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
The Tiger-Cats announced Monday afternoon that Tagovailoa would be joining the squad’s practice roster. The signing came after Tagovailoa participated in NFL rookie mini-camps with the Seattle Seahawks and Arizona Cardinals.
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have been competitive for the past three seasons, but they haven’t been able to break through to the promised land. They now have a decision to make. Do they risk losing their young potential by sticking with the veteran players who have been a vital part of the squad for years, or do they make a move back to secure their future? We’ll discuss the top five pending free agents they might want to retain here, but we won’t make that decision here.
Ted Laurent, defensive tackle, is the lone large man on this list, so let’s get things started. Laurent, who played college football for Mississippi but was born in Powder Springs, Georgia, has a national status and has been a ratio-busting player for the Tiger-Cats since 2014. He joined the Edmonton Elks in 2011 and has been a member of the black and gold team ever since, but this offseason, things could change.
With 155 games played in the league so far, Laurent has amassed an impressive 200 tackles and 48 sacks. He gets commended for the accomplishments that are shown in the box score, but there is more. The Tiger-Cats gave up just 3.8 yards per rush when Laurent was on the field last season; however, during the first two weeks of the season, he was sidelined, and they gave up an astounding 6.2 yards per carry.
