BREAKING: Two Miami football players have been rated the top 2024 24 must-see true freshmen.
Miami football’s linebacker Cameron Pruitt and tight end Elija Lofton were among the 24 “true freshmen during the 2024 season.”
Brad Crawford of 247Sports included linebacker Cameron Pruitt and tight end Elija Lofton from the Miami football team in his “College football recruiting: Ranking 24 must-watch true freshmen during the 2024 season.” Lofton and Pruitt’s inclusion on this list substantially exceeds their 2024 class rankings.
Lofton was the 181st prospect, the 10th tight end, the top Nevada player, and the ninth signee in Miami’s 2024 class. Pruitt was the 489th prospect, 45th safety, 28th Alabama player, and 15th of 27 signees in Miami’s 2024 class. Lofton and Pruitt have a shot to shatter Miami’s two-deep depth chart.
Lofton was a standout and dynamic performer during Spring practice. Lofton was lined up as an H-Back, running back, and tight end by Shannon Dawson and the Miami offensive coaches. Lofton will likely fight for snaps with sophomore Riley Williams and ninth-year senior Cameron McCormick behind projected starter Elijah Arroyo.
Pruitt is expected to serve as Miami’s top backup at outside linebacker behind starters Wesley Bissainthe and Jaylin Alderman. Pruitt swiftly surpassed the veteran linebackers on Miami’s squad, as well as his higher-ranked classmate Adarius Hayes. Pruitt, who signed with Miami as a safety, has swiftly converted to linebacker.

“According to post-spring intel, the four-star tight end is one of Mario Cristobal’s surprising jewels in this class. Lofton drew attention during multiple scrimmages. He adds power and athleticism to a Miami team that features numerous fresh faces at playmaker positions.”
Dawson will figure out a method to get Lofton snaps and touches in 2024. Lofton is expected to play primarily in short yardage, goal line, and red zone situations for Miami. Lofton is one of several new Miami Hurricanes additions that will help the team’s offense become more dynamic in 2024.
In the final two seasons at Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, Lofton had 27 carries for 178 yards and 16 touchdowns, as well as 59 receptions for 1,350 yards and 21 touchdowns. With Lofton on the roster, Miami should have plenty of fascinating formations during the 2024 season.
