BREAKING: Ohio State appoints new coach

Janine Oman, senior deputy director of athletics and senior women’s administrator, revealed on Tuesday that Emily Gackowski has been hired as the new head rowing coach.

Gackowski is quite familiar with Ohio State, having worked as an assistant coach with the Buckeyes for the previous five years. Since then, Ohio State has won a Big Ten championship and competed in the NCAA Championships every season. During Gackowski’s stint on the staff, the Buckeyes have finished in the top ten nationally twice.

“We’re thrilled to promote Emily Gackowski to lead our rowing program,” Oman stated. “She’s earned this opportunity, not only through the good work she’s done as assistant coach and the personal connections she’s made with our student-athletes and staff, but also because of her long-range vision for the program.”

“I am very excited about Ohio State rowing,” stated Ross Bjork, Senior Advisor for Intercollegiate Athletics. “Emily has a wonderful spirit for Ohio State University and this program, and the future is bright under her leadership.”

Gackowski, for her part, is eager to build on the OSU program’s previous accomplishments and appreciative for the opportunity.

“I’m honored and humbled by the chance to lead the Ohio State rowing program,” Gackowski told reporters. “I’m appreciative to Janine Oman and Ross Bjork for their belief in me and I am looking forward to the opportunity to build upon the legacy of success this program is known for both academically and athletically.”
