As he is ready to make his last appearance at Goodison Park, Tim Howard has written an emotional farewell letter to Everton supporters.
On the final day of the Premier League season, the 37-year-old goalkeeper will play his final game for the Toffees before leaving the team after nearly a decade of service to join Colorado Rapids in his home state of the United States.
Howard thanked his Everton teammates, coaches, and Toffees chairman Bill Kenwright on social media on Sunday, stating that the team “have become part of my soul.”
The former Manchester United keeper paid special tribute to Phil Jagielka, describing the England international as ‘the greatest and strongest captain’, and saying he is ‘greatly indebted’ to recently sacked coach Roberto Martinez.
Howard wrote: ‘Grateful. I remember the promise that David Moyes made to me 10 years ago: “once you walk through those doors, you’ll fall in love.”
‘Today, I will walk through those doors one more time, and then I will depart.
I’ll always be appreciative of so many people. The supporters, who give Everton its unique character and such passion, come first. my teammates. Among the many who always exemplified the ideal of an Evertonian in training, play, and demeanour were Tony Hibbert, Leon Osman, and Leighton Baines.
It has been an honour to follow Phil Jagielka, who has proven to be the finest and strongest captain of all time. Two excellent supervisors. The epitome of a leader, David Moyes embodied both power and honesty. I owe Roberto Martinez a tremendous deal for his kindness and dedication to me both as a player and a guy.
