We are taking an early look at Oklahoma’s opponents for the 2024 season, which will be the Sooners’ debut in the SEC. As Brent Venables’ third season in Norman approaches, the 12-part series will analyze each of Oklahoma’s 12 regular-season opponents.

The Oklahoma Sooners softball team is nominated for two ESPY awards.
The 2024 national championship team has been nominated for Best Team, making it the program’s fourth straight nomination in the category. Jayda Coleman, a senior outfielder, has been nominated for Best Play for her walk-off home run against Florida during the Women’s College World Series.
Oklahoma softball has once again been honored for a successful season that included a new accomplishment.
Last season, the Sooners were honored for their record-breaking season, which included the longest winning streak and a third consecutive championship. This time, it’s because the Sooners have become the first softball team to win four consecutive national championships.
The University of Oklahoma softball team has been nominated for two ESPY Awards at the 2024 ESPYS Presented by Capital One. ESPN published the list of nominees on Wednesday, and fan voting is now open at ESPN.com/ESPYS. The 2024 national championship team has been nominated for Best Team, making it the program’s fourth straight nomination in the category. The 2024 ESPYS will air live on ABC on Thursday, July 11 at 7 p.m. CT from Los Angeles.
The National Fastpitch Coaches Association named Oklahoma’s softball coaching staff the 2024 ATEC/NFCA Division I National Coaching Staff of the Year for the third year in a row. NCAA DI head coaches vote on the National Coaching Staff of the Year award.
BEST TEAM
In terms of “Best Team” nominations, the Sooners won their NCAA-record fourth consecutive national championship this season, going 59-7 (.894) with a 22-5 Big 12 record. With that record, the Sooners had the best win-loss percentage this season. OU launched Love’s Field to a record season attendance of 108,156 (4,326 average) and went 5-0 in the postseason at its new home.
The Sooners had 27 run-rule victories and 23 shutouts while going 38-6 against power five opponents. Oklahoma also led the nation in wins and on-base percentage, while finishing in the top five in a variety of statistical categories such as home runs, batting average, shutouts, slugging %, doubles, fielding percentage, and OPS.
Five Sooners were selected NFCA All-Americans, nine earned All-Big 12 honors, and five were named to the WCWS All-Tournament Team, including pitcher Kelly Maxwell, the Most Outstanding Player.

BEST PLAY
Jayda Coleman’s walk-off home run in extra innings lifted the Sooners back to the Championship Series. It halted all the doubts that were being set in as the Sooners struggled to find runs throughout the two-game series. The Sooners never looked back after Coleman’s memorable shot as they went on to sweep Texas for their fourth consecutive National Championship and eight overall.
