BREAKING: New York Yankees star is reportedly vying for one of MLB’s most elusive feats
There may be an entire second half of the season yet to play, but New York Yankees star Aaron Judge is squarely in the running for one of MLB’s greatest achievements.
Judge has a.316 batting average, 31 home runs, and 82 RBIs heading into Monday’s games.
Judge’s home run and RBI totals lead MLB. His batting average is only one point below than that of American League leader Luis Rengifo, who might be added to New York’s roster before the trade deadline.
That’s correct, Judge is vying for the elusive Triple Crown.
The last time a player achieved the rare feat was in 2012 when Miguel Cabrera hit .330 with 44 home runs and 139 RBI.
Before that, the latest player to do so was Carl Yastrzemski in 1967.
Judge is likely to finish the season with the most home runs and RBI in the MLB. The average section will be more tough because there are more guys around him, including Rengifo, Bobby Witt Jr. (.312), and Carlos Correa (.311).
Since May 1, Judge has been on an unbelievable tear. He leads Major League Baseball in hitting average (.384), home runs (25), RBI (64), fWAR (5.3), OPS (1.388), and wRC+ (275).
Maintaining that pace is difficult and maybe impossible, but Judge is a superstar in the midst of a truly historic season. So it is unwise to bet against him.
We’ll see whether he can finish it off by becoming only the second player since 1968 to capture the Triple Crown.
