GREAT NEWS: South Carolina football top target ready to announce commitment
South Carolina football’s four-star safety target JaDon Blair has scheduled a commitment date of Friday, July 5th.
Torrian Gray, South Carolina football defensive backs coach, has three very good safeties who serve as “starters” for his Gamecock secondary. Though USC only plays two safety at a time, the nickel position allows Nick Emmanwori, DQ Smith, and Jalon Kilgore to work together in the Gamecock defensive backfield.
However, with Emmanwori presumably heading to the NFL after this season, Smith having only one more year of eligibility in 2025, and Kilgore also likely going pro after 2025, recruiting the position is a top priority for the program right now.
4-star safety. Damarcus Leach is already in the 2025 South Carolina football recruiting class, while Jaquel Holman and Chris Hatfield may end up at the position if their initial aspirations for linebacker and cornerback, respectively, change.
Nonetheless, the Gamecocks are linked to several other safeties in the ’25 cycle. One of Carolina’s top recruits is consensus 4-star JaDon Blair from North Carolina.
Blair, whose official top schools list includes ten programs (South Carolina Gamecocks, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Michigan Wolverines, Florida State Seminoles, Maryland Terrapins, Wake Forest Demon Deacons, Louisville Cardinals, Virginia Tech Hokies, Miami Hurricanes, and Penn State Nittany Lions), has made official visits to seven. He is quite interested in the Gamecocks, but Notre Dame has appeared to be the frontrunner in his recruitment for quite some time.
Blair wrote on Twitter/X on Monday evening, perhaps indicating that he is ready to make a commitment decision. He appears to have scheduled a statement for this Friday, July 5th.
Blair is a clear 4-star talent and a top-100 national potential according to On3. His stats (6’4″ and 190 pounds with a 4.5s 40-yard dash) make it clear why, but he also performs well on the field.
Blair has good instincts when the ball is in the air, and his length and quickness make him a threat to catch just about any ball thrown on his side of the field. He’s also a terrific run support player who isn’t afraid to play with physicality, which many other high school defensive backs lack.
