SAD NEWS: Oklahoma Sooners loses one of their key player to one of their biggest rivals
The Oklahoma Sooners have been dominating the 2025 recruiting class. Cortez Mills, a four-star receiver from Florida, has committed to the Sooners after considering LSU, Clemson, Nebraska, and Florida.
However, while they’ve done well in terms of signings, they’ve now passed up an outstanding talent. That happens all the time in every school, therefore it’s not the problem. The actual issue is who he preferred over Oklahoma.
Smith Orogbo, a 6-foot-4, 220-pounder, selected the Texas Longhorns over Oklahoma. Orogbo has two other finalists: Texas Tech and Kansas.

The reason he chose Texas over Oklahoma is not as football-related as you may imagine.
“It’s Texas,” Orogbo responded when asked why he chose Texas.
Orogbo is a four-star athlete from Alief Hastings High School in Houston, Texas. So there was always a sense of belonging to your own state. But there’s a reason he was drawn to Oklahoma.
If he had made his decision based on football, Oklahoma would have been the obvious choice. The school north of Texas has had far greater success over the last 30 years and is traditionally a much stronger football program. Furthermore, both are now members of the SEC, therefore the conference is no longer relevant.
The Sooners have made numerous defensive additions for the 2025 class, but having an excellent edge rusher like Orogbo would have been ideal. Now they move on to see what else they can add to their already top-10 2025 class. They’ve already done what Texas did: steal a recruit from a big-time school.
