South Carolina Baseball Transfer Portal Tracker 2024
Keeping track of South Carolina baseball’s offseason movement.
The South Carolina baseball club has lost and will add players through the NCAA Transfer Portal. The Gamecocks, led by first-year head coach Paul Mainieri, need to add some players to their roster this summer, and assistant coaches Monte Lee and Terry Rooney are presently recruiting.
Right now, though, here’s a look at who’s coming and going through the NCAA Transfer Portal. Here is a link to the current South Carolina baseball commitment list, which currently does not contain any players from the NCAA Transfer Portal. Incoming junior college athletes that have committed this offseason are also included below.
INCOMING PLAYERS
LHP Jarvis Evans (Georgia), on June 26: As a freshman in 2023, Evans was 2-0 in ten games with a 4.71 ERA, 25 strikeouts in 21 innings, and a.211 batting average against. This past season, he appeared in 16 games and started eight of them. He finished 3-2 with a 5.49 ERA, 27 walks, and 47 strikeouts in 39 1/3 innings.
UTIL Cayden Gaskin (Northwest Florida State) on June 12: Gaskin batted.403 with seven home runs, 59 RBIs, and 41 stolen bases. He walked 37 times and struck out 42, for a 1.148 OPS.
RHP Caleb Jones (Winthrop) on June 3: Jones went 2-1 in 25 appearances, including two starts, with a 5.26 ERA. In 49 2/3 innings, he allowed 56 hits, walked 19, and struck out 49. Opponents averaged.290 against him.
INF Charlie Meglio (Campbell), on June 26: Meglio made 43 starts for the Camels as a rookie, primarily at third base but also at shortstop. He was chosen to the CAA All-Rookie Team, hitting.275 with nine home runs and 28 RBIs. The right-handed hitter collected 35 free bases while striking out only 36 times.
**A first baseman has committed to South Carolina, but he has not yet publicly declared it.
OUTGOING PLAYERS
LHP Jackson Phipps: Did not play in any games in 2024. Committed to Jacksonville State.
LHP Jevarra Martin: Made a single appearance and faced two batters, walking one and hitting one.
Connor McCreery, RHP, threw 22 2/3 innings with a 3-1 record and a 4.37 ERA.
Drake Quinn, RHP, pitched 10 innings in nine appearances with a 6.30 ERA, six walks, and 11 strikeouts.
UTIL Tristan Salinas did not appear in any games during 2024.
RHP Austin Williamson: Made three appearances, pitching 2 1/3 innings with an 11.57 ERA, one walk, and two strikeouts.
INF Tyler Zedalis did not play in any games in 2024.
