Gamecock superstar player joins new club
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Timberwolves have signed P.J. Dozier to a one-year contract.
Dozier, who spent last season with Serbian team Partizan Belgrade, plans to return to the NBA in 2024-25. While playing for the Nuggets in November 2021, the former South Carolina great suffered a serious injury: a ruptured ACL. He spent the most of the 2022-23 season in the G League, playing for the Timberwolves and Kings’ respective affiliates. In 33 Euroleague games last year, Dozier averaged 9.2 points, 3.1 assists, and 3.0 rebounds in 21.5 minutes per game.
Dozier’s route to the NBA was not easy. After going undrafted in 2017 after two seasons with the Gamecocks, he created a name for himself by guiding South Carolina to the final four. In his final season, he averaged 13.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.7 steals per game, while shooting 40.7% from the field and 29.8% from beyond the arc.
In the NBA, Dozier has career averages of 5.7 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game, with shooting percentages of 40.2% from the field and 30.7% from three-point range in 121 regular season games. He has also appeared in 15 NBA postseason games, demonstrating his ability to perform on a large stage.
Prior to his ACL surgery in 2021, Dozier was a highly rated sixth man, with many considering him a good contender for Sixth Man of the Year honors. His return to the NBA is a source of pride for Gamecock fans and a pleasant sight for basketball lovers worldwide.
