One big question for every Oklahoma football position group ahead of SEC Media Days
The 2024 season is already approaching, with SEC Media Days taking place next week. These are the big questions for each Oklahoma position heading into the 2024 season.
SEC Media Days are on the horizon, and the 2024 season is quickly approaching.
All 16 SEC head coaches and 48 player representatives — three from each of the league’s clubs — will gather in Dallas next week for the league’s annual media days, also known as the height of talking season as excitement for the start of actual games grows. Oklahoma’s Aug. 30 opener against Temple at Owen Field is more than just the start of the program’s third season under head coach Brent Venables; it also marks the official start of the Sooners’ first season in the SEC after leaving the Big 12, a conference of which OU was a charter member.
Now it’s time for a step up in competition, as evidenced by a schedule that is among the most difficult in college football entering the year, and a chance for Oklahoma to prove itself both in terms of the team’s place in the SEC hierarchy and the program’s trajectory under Venables, who is 16-10 in two seasons and coming off a 10-win season in 2023. The Sooners have some leeway with their nonconference schedule during the first three weeks of the season, which includes home games against Temple, Houston, and Tulane, before making their SEC debut at home against Tennessee. That’s when Oklahoma’s real season begins.
Before the Sooners arrive, there are a number of critical questions on the roster, some of which are more pressing than others. Some of those answers will become clearer when Oklahoma participates in SEC Media Days in Dallas next Tuesday. Others will not be addressed until fall camp, or even earlier in the season.
