BREAKING: Miami Hurricanes has landed another veteran WR
Miami has just added a tremendously effective wide receiver in Daylyn Upshaw.
Daylyn Upshaw, a wide receiver at Phenix City Central in Alabama, revealed his commitment to Miami on Saturday evening. During his recruitment process, the very productive 5-foot-11, 175-pounder had offers from colleges including Georgia, Florida, Florida State, Auburn, Texas, Tennessee, and Ole Miss.
This summer, Miami was the only official visit, and the Hurricanes signed the rising senior, who became the program’s 18th member this cycle. He is the only wide receiver in the bunch.
“Me and [offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson] and coach Kevin Beard talked game and he just feels like he can use me the way they use [All-ACC wide receiver Xavier Restrepo] with a lot of option routes, a lot of deep balls, stuff like that,” Upshaw told reporters following his time at the program last the months that followed.
As a junior, Upshaw caught 59 passes for 1185 yards and 15 touchdowns for one of the Yellowhammer State’s premier programs, operating against five-star Auburn true freshman Cam Coleman. Miami’s recruiting class is now ranked ninth nationally.
“He’s a well-rounded wide receiver prospect that put up big numbers as a junior playing opposite of five-star Cam Coleman,” 247Sports director of scouting Andrew Ivins said of Upshaw ahead of his announcement. “He can race into the deeper third and haul in the long ball. What also stands out about his game is how he’s able to capitalize on his catch-and-run opportunities as he’s got above-average vision and gets out of tackles with jump cuts. On the younger side for the grade, having just turned 17 years old and having seen him at various camps and tournaments, I wouldn’t be surprised if he undergoes a major physical transformation in the coming years. Overall, a solid addition for Miami given what they want to do on offense. He’s the type of wideout that offers some versatility and line up on the inside or outside.”
Upshaw joins an attacking group led by a trio of Top247 prospects in Las Vegas (Nev.). Seuseu Alofaituli, interior offensive lineman for Bishop Gorman, Girard Pringle Jr., running back for Seffner (Fla.) Armwood, and Brock Schott, tight end for Leo.
Alpharetta (GA) Milton quarterback Luke Nickel leads a top-ten national football program coming off a state championship in Georgia’s highest division.
Throughout the Mario Cristobal era, the Hurricanes maintained a strong presence in Alabama, signing players such as four-star linebacker Cam Pruitt and EDGE Cole McConathy last cycle. Both made a solid first impression this spring.
Upshaw is the second player in the state to pledge to Miami in the Class of 2025, following Parker (Ala.) cornerback Timothy Merrit.
