Brittany Force is set to return in Seattle with Flav-R-Pac backing
Brittany Force will return behind the wheel of her national record-setting Flav-R-Pac Chevrolet Top Fuel dragster this week when the NHRA Mission Foods tour visits Pacific Raceways for the 35th NHRA Northwest Nationals, with father John responding positively to treatment for the TBI he sustained in a June 23 crash in Virginia.
Despite missing the final race in Norwalk, Ohio, the two-time Top Fuel World Champion remained 10th in the standings and is ready to return to the fight for victory with a car that, prior to her father’s accident, had begun to respond to setup adjustments.
“I’m happy to be back on the track after a tough few weeks,” said the 38-year-old, who set a Pacific Raceways speed record of 334.73 mph last year. “It’s been an emotional rollercoaster for our family since Richmond, but my father has made significant improvement, and we’re all extremely proud of him. He has now been sent to a rehabilitation facility closer to home.
“I want to thank (crew chief) David Grubnic, John Collins and my team for their patience and support in my decision to stay with my dad while the races in Norwalk continued,” she told me. “Missing a race was difficult, but I needed to be with my father and family.
“I’m honored to drive our Flav-R-Pac dragster this weekend to commemorate our longtime partner, Frank Tiegs. He often reminded me that having fun is what allows you to perform at your best. We won the title together in 2022, and I’m thrilled to be driving him and his family this weekend.
“Our team’s current focus is to improve our starting position in the Countdown,” explained the 16-time Tour winner. “We’ve made some great strides in our last few races and I’m looking forward to taking that next step and getting our Flav-R-Pac dragster into the winner’s circle for the Tiegs family and my dad!”
Force, who finished second to Tony Schumacher at the 2022 Northwest Nationals after qualifying first, enters Friday with 67 points behind No. 9 Tony Stewart and 104 behind No. 7 Billy Torrence, with only four races left before the Countdown.
“It’s going to be terrible not having my dad on the track with me this weekend,” Force said, “but I know he’ll be watching from his recovery center. Seeing him fight back is inspiring me to get back in the winner’s circle right now.”
