SAD NEWS: Cleveland Browns’ star has been confirmed dead
Swagger Jr., the beloved Cleveland Browns mascot, died at the age of five, the franchise announced on Tuesday.
Swagger Jr. has been the team’s mascot since 2019, succeeding the original Swagger as the NFL’s live mascot.
The reason for his death is unknown, and the Browns have not yet announced who, if anyone, will be the next good boy or girl in line.
Swagger Jr. was a Bullmastiff who resembled the Browns’ insignia and appeared at every home game in Cleveland, running out of the tunnel among the rest of the team’s lineup.
‘We are saddened to report the death of our beloved mascot, SJ. “We are so grateful for his many years of loyal support and cherish all of the wonderful memories he helped create for fans young and old,” the Cleveland Browns wrote on X.
Tributes poured in for Swagger Jr from Browns fans on social media.
WWE wrestler Johnny Gargano shared two videos of him and Swagger Jr. at Cleveland Browns Stadium.
Gargano is a well-known Cleveland native who has incorporated the Browns’ colors onto his t-shirts and stuff.
‘Aw, man, RIP SJ,’ Gargano wrote on X. ‘Thank you for being the best boy to (wife) Candice (LeRae), (son) Quill (Gargano), and myself.’
Olympic gold champion Katie Moon responded to the word about his death with a teary-eyed emoji, a broken-heart emoji, and a photo of herself with SJ.
Within a few hours, almost 150,000 individuals had seen the notification on X about SJ’s passing.
The Browns had an impressive 2023 season, reaching the Wild Card round of the playoffs with Joe Flacco at quarterback.
