BREAKING: Cleveland Browns’ star signs new deal
Dustin Hopkins and the Cleveland Browns have agreed to a three-year, $15.9 million extension, according to sources who spoke with ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Monday. This makes Hopkins one of the NFL’s top five highest paid kickers.
In 2023, Hopkins converted 33 of 36 field goal tries, including a career-long 58-yarder. Hopkins also set an NFL record by making five consecutive 50-yard field goals.
Hopkins, 33, was entering the final year of his deal, which had a base value of $2.875 million.
The Browns traded for Hopkins two weeks before the 2023 season began, trading a 2025 seventh-round pick to the Los Angeles Chargers.
Hopkins, a sixth-round pick of the Buffalo Bills in 2013, was released by Buffalo, the New Orleans Saints, and the Washington Commanders. He then lost his kicker job with the Chargers before joining Cleveland, where he enjoyed a career-best season.
Hopkins missed the Browns’ final two regular-season games and their playoff defeat to the Houston Texans due to a hamstring injury (he also suffered a major hamstring injury with the Chargers in 2022), but he is now recovered and participated in the team’s minicamp.
Earlier this offseason, the Browns re-signed Cade York, whom Hopkins replaced last season.
