GREAT NEWS: Browns fans’ favorite is reportedly set to return
Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski has designated Jameis Winston the starting quarterback for the team’s first preseason game on Saturday, August 10, against the Green Bay Packers at Cleveland Browns Stadium.
Winston was signed in the summer to a one-year contract worth $4 million to back up Deshaun Watson. Watson will return after shoulder surgery on November 21, 2023. It is unclear when or if Watson will participate in the preseason. Mary Kay Cabot claimed that the decision would be made as “camp goes on.”
Playing in preseason games has both advantages and risks, especially for athletes recovering from significant ailments. Players do not want to aggravate or damage themselves again, but game practice can help them get over the rust before Week One.
Herm Edwards, a former NFL head coach and current ESPN pundit, recently suggested that Watson participate in the preseason. He also added that the Browns must get out to a fast start in 2024, and that they cannot afford to have a rusty Deshaun Watson take the field against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1.
The Browns’ remaining preseason games are at home against the Minnesota Vikings on August 17 and on the road at Seattle on August 24.
