HUGE LOSS: Auburn’s top target is reportedly set to join rival team.
Texas A&M football still wants to add another wideout, but one candidate has eliminated his name from the running.
Texas A&M football received a commitment from a portal wide receiver earlier today. Jacob Bostick, previously of the Iowa Hawkeyes, verbally committed to the Aggies over the Ole Miss Rebels. This was a significant pickup for an Aggie squad that needed more help at wideout.
However, it appears that, like everything else in life, the recruiting win was a trade-off. Following the announcement that Bostick would be going to College Station, another portal candidate, Auburn grad transfer Ja’Varrius Johnson, revealed that he would no longer be visiting the Aggies.

Johnson plays a little different position than Bostick—he’s more of a genuine slot player, although Bostick is tall enough to stay outside for the majority of his snaps—but the timing is too coincidence to be anything other than seeking for a less packed room. There’s nothing wrong with it, of course—the gateway is about determining the best landing location for you depending on your goals.
Still, the Aggies are looking for at least one more portal receiver before the season begins. Eli Green, NDSU’s star, could still be a candidate—he matches the mold of a shifty interior player with game-changing ability.
If this is the roster that the Aggies bring into the season, they will not be short on championship-level talent. The top three players—Moose Muhammad, Noah Thomas, and Jahdae Walker—can compete with anyone in the nation. I appreciate the promise of young players like Izaiah Williams, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the former Florida commit ends up contributing in some capacity. Let us not forget Cyrus Allen, either!
Overall, I am certain that the Aggie coaching staff will make the most of the situation. There is plenty of talent among the Aggie receivers.
