Boston Red Sox predicted to sign future Hall Of Famer in a surprise move this winter

Could the Red Sox make a surprising trade this winter?

The Boston Red Sox have a good chance of returning to the postseason this year.

Boston is stacked with potential, and the club received some good news on Friday when teenage slugger Triston Casas announced his return to the organization. Casas has not played since April, but he is scheduled to start for the Red Sox against the Baltimore Orioles on Friday night.

Things are looking well for Boston, but it should get even better next year. The Red Sox’s greatest young talent appears to be on the verge of making their big league debuts, and Boston may return to spending in free agency to add pitching after the season.

FanSided’s Michael Brakebill even claimed that the Red Sox would sign future Hall of Famer Max Scherzer in a surprise move.

“Max Scherzer’s 2024 has been riddled with injuries to this point,” according to Brakebill. “He has only played 39.1 innings thus far, but he has been productive when healthy. He has a 3.89 ERA to date, however he is now on the (Injured List) because to a shoulder injury that has kept him out for longer than projected. Given that he is a free agent this season, Texas is unlikely to re-sign him if he performs well at the end of the season…

Given the few alternatives beyond Tanner Houck and Kutter Crawford, Boston is the club I keep coming back to. The squad presently ranks sixth in the (American League) in terms of starting rotation ERA, but Houck and Crawford are the reason for that. Without those two, Boston’s rotation falls to the middle of the pack at best, and you can see them seeking to bring in a veteran without committing to a long-term deal in the future. Scherzer is an ideal candidate for this. Prediction: Boston Red Sox.

Scherzer is still a great pitcher, but this move would be completely unexpected. Boston may spend this offseason, but it is more probable that they would sign someone younger, such as Corbin Burnes. The Red Sox have eschewed big contracts in recent years, so it would be difficult to see them changing their minds about someone as elderly as Scherzer.
