Cleveland Browns received a big injury update on their defensive star.

The Cleveland Browns play their second preseason game this weekend against the Minnesota Vikings.

Over the last few days, the two squads have been practicing together. The Browns’ joint practice period yielded numerous positive results.

Not only did positive things happen on the field, but Cleveland also received encouraging news regarding injuries.

The Browns announced that Za’Darius Smith was able to return to practice on Thursday. He has been absent since August 5th due to a knee contusion.

Now he can get back on the field and prepare for the start of the regular season.

Kevin Stefanski opened up on how pleased he was to see Smith back on the practice field.

“It’s good to see Za’Darius back out there. He was out there yesterday, and you heard him. But it was excellent to have him wearing pads.”

Smith also played an important role on Cleveland’s defense in 2023. He appeared in 16 games and recorded 27 total tackles, 5.5 sacks, a forced fumble, and three passes defended.

Smith, at 31 years old, is still a capable playmaker. He’s an outstanding pass rusher who gives valuable help across from Myles Garrett.

If the Browns hope to challenge for a playoff spot this season, let alone the AFC North crown, they’ll need a healthy Smith wrecking havoc on opposition quarterbacks.

Obviously, this is excellent news for Cleveland. Now all they need to do is keep everyone healthy as we approach Week 1.
