The Red Sox are now returning two sluggers from injury, with the potential to alter Boston’s lineup into its most powerful edition in 2024.
First baseman Triston Casas will make his long-awaited return on Friday in Baltimore, and Tyler O’Neill will join Casas and the Red Sox on the field on Saturday, according to MassLive’s Chris Cotillo.
Boston is currently lacking offensive potency, with Rafael Devers in a fatigue-related slump and Jarren Duran unable to seem at ease in the batter’s box.
Casas will most likely need some time to adjust to life in the big leagues, but O’Neill is someone manager Alex Cora will rely on to slash right away.
Finally, O’Neill considers himself fortunate to be alive despite being hospitalized for four days this week due to a frightening leg illness. O’Neill has slugged his way to 22 home runs this season despite missing brief periods of activity on three occasions.
If neither Casas nor Cora offer a spark for Boston, Cora will struggle to generate offense from his lineup, though Wilyer Abreu, who has been swinging a dangerous bat in recent games, is someone to keep an eye on.
The Red Sox will accept output from wherever as they try to break out of the near-Wild Card rut they’ve been in for weeks.
