REPORT: New proposed trade would be the ultimate disaster for Jerod Mayo’s Patriots tenure
Throughout the offseason, the Patriots were linked to numerous wide receivers who would quickly become stars of the budding offense. This is the type of player that the squad has perhaps lacked for many years.
The new regime led by Jerod Mayo and Eliot Wolf clearly favored offense, as evidenced by their aggressive pursuit of Calvin Ridley and subsequent double-dip at the position in the draft earlier this year. That was especially evident in their most recent attempt to trade for Brandon Aiyuk, which they ultimately backed out of owing to his stated lack of interest in New England.
Because their most recent attempt failed, the Patriots continue to be the focus of trade rumors ahead of the 2018 season. Tee Higgins’ future in Cincinnati remains uncertain, while CeeDee Lamb has begun a holdout in Dallas, giving the organization more alternatives if it wants to add more quality to the squad.
However, with those trade recommendations come some very terrible suggestions, one of which is a definite way for Mayo to end his Patriots career.

Since the focus has switched from Higgins to Lamb, the Patriots have constantly been reported as prospective bidders for the 25-year-old. The Cowboys have been unwilling to give their top receiver a contract extension, so a trade remains a possibility.
With that in mind, numerous possibilities have been explored over the last two weeks regarding the Patriots and how they might finally land the receiver of their dreams. While it would be fantastic to obtain a player of Lamb’s caliber, Maurice Moton of Bleacher Report’s latest trade idea would be a nightmare for New England to accept.
The first issue with the idea is how much draft money the Patriots are supposed to give up for Lamb. He’s a really skilled player who may be considered one of the greatest in the game, but three draft picks and a wide receiver in exchange for only one player seems like a lot.
Not to add, the Patriots are expected to suffer a losing season in 2024, which means their draft picks will be higher than usual, particularly their 2025 first-rounder. Adding a third-round pick next year and in 2026 would be an outright heist for Dallas, making Mayo and Wolf’s choice more than questionable.
To make matters worse, tossing in rookie Javon Baker makes little sense given that he was picked by the Patriots and has been consistently productive during spring and summer practices.
Although Lamb is a much more desirable player, Baker is inexperienced and has a high ceiling, so trading him away before seeing what he can achieve would be a bad idea.
