Boston Red Sox star could make MLB history.
Danny Jansen, the Boston Red Sox’s catcher, might make Major League Baseball history on Monday when he faces his previous team, the Toronto Blue Jays.
Jansen might become the first player in baseball history to appear for both clubs in the same game.
Red Sox-Blue Jays suspended game
The Red Sox and Blue Jays began their game on June 26 at Fenway Park. Jansen, who was batting sixth for Toronto, was at the plate when the game was halted due to rain. The game was ultimately canceled and rescheduled for Monday as part of a doubleheader.
That’s when things became interesting. Before the MLB trade deadline, Jansen was traded to Boston for three prospects.
When the game resumes on Monday, the Blue Jays will have to utilize a pinch-hitter in Jansen’s absence.
Boston’s lineup on the day the game began included Reese McGuire, who was designated for assignment and ultimately moved to Triple-A Worcester.
As a result, Jansen might be placed into the Red Sox lineup on Monday.
According to Jansen, it’s a “unique thing” and “it’s going to be nuts.”
Who is Danny Jansen?
Jansen appeared in 61 games with the Blue Jays this season before being traded. Prior to the transfer, the catcher had spent seven seasons with Toronto.
Jansen has played 13 games with Boston, hitting.257 with two home runs and five RBIs.
The Red Sox have won four out of their previous six games. The squad is off Thursday and is currently 3.5 games back of the American League’s last wild card place.
