BREAKING: Steelers faces new competition for Brandon Aiyuk.

An old competitor has resurfaced in the Brandon Aiyuk market.

The Pittsburgh Steelers appeared to be racing against the clock in the Brandon Aiyuk drama, waiting to hear if they had landed the All-Pro wide receiver or if he had re-signed with the San Francisco 49ers. But, following an intra-division deal immediately before the preseason finale, a new team has emerged as a competitor.

Really, this is an old team. When the roller coaster ride began, the Steelers were among numerous teams on board. By the end, the Cleveland Browns, Washington Commanders, and New England Patriots had all gotten off. Now it looks that the Commanders are back in action.

Speaking on San Francisco radio station KNBR, NFL expert Michael Silver stated that Washington is suddenly back in the discussion as a possible destination for Aiyuk. Aiyuk played college football with Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels and made it clear that they were on his list this offseason.

After moving Jahan Dotson to the Eagles, Aiyuk appears to be back in play.

“I wouldn’t rule out Washington,” Silver added. “And, while there have been indications that the Commanders are out, they just traded a receiver today. Adam Peters and John Lynch evidently communicate quite well on this. Aside from the Steelers, it is the other team Aiyuk has narrowed down as a potential destination.

Silver later said that the Commanders and Aiyuk “are not dead.”

The Steelers’ offer for Aiyuk is unknown, but some suggest it might be as high as a second-round pick. Nonetheless, Aiyuk and the 49ers continue to attempt to work things out. With Washington back in the picture, Pittsburgh’s situation becomes even more tough.

If the 49ers star does not work out, the Steelers are expected to resume their search for a wide receiver. According to sources, JuJu Smith-Schuster is being considered, but there are many more names who could fit the criteria for what Pittsburgh is looking to add before Week 1.
