The Pittsburgh Steelers are adding depth to their linebacker room.

On Monday morning, the Pittsburgh Steelers provided some insurance for their linebacker room.

KPRC 2 According to Houston’s Aaron Wilson, the Steelers have agreed to a contract with Kyahva Tezino. The addition follows Payton Wilson’s injury in the team’s most recent preseason game against the Buffalo Bills, when he left after being checked for a concussion.

Tezino spent his entire five-year collegiate career at San Diego State, where he helped the Aztecs win the Mountain West championship as a redshirt freshman in 2016. He also received personal recognition throughout his tenure there, being selected First-Team All-Mountain West twice in 2018 and 2019, as well as Honorable Mention All-American honors from Phil Steele and Pro Football Focus. He has a total of 290 tackles, 32.5 tackles for loss, and 15.5 sacks for the school.

Tezino was not taken in the 2020 NFL Draft, but the New England Patriots signed him as a UDFA on April 27 of the same year. He was cut on July 26 before signing with the Carolina Panthers, where he remained on their practice squad until his release before the regular season began.

Tezino then joined the United States Football League, where he was selected in the 31st round of the 2022 selection by the Pittsburgh Maulers. He played with the organization in 2022 and 2023, totaling 179 tackles and 2.5 sacks before being chosen to the All-USFL team in his last season.

Tezino, 27, was signed by the San Francisco 49ers on July 27, 2023, after appearing in all three of the team’s preseason games, playing 23 defensive plays and collecting an 11-yard reception. He was later released on August 27 and went on to play with the Birmingham Stallions of the United Football League last year, totaling 66 tackles and 0.5 sacks.
