After a tough battle in training camp and the preseason, veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett earned the right to start that game. At least for the time being, he will be the Patriots’ starter and will be given every opportunity to maintain that status throughout the season.

Drake Maye put up a nice fight, but New England is focusing on developing him gently. They don’t want to toss him to the wolves quite yet.

That could change later this season, but Brissett now has the position.

Following his hard effort to earn the position, Brissett spoke up about being the Patriots’ starter.

“I’ve worked hard to get here, and I’m thrilled about the adventure ahead of us. I don’t take anything for granted. It will probably set in more when you leave my locker, but I am excited. It has been a lot of labor. The path to this point involved many arduous days and nights. I’m glad for the opportunity, but I’m also delighted about it.”

Brissett has shown flashes of elite skill throughout his career. However, he has never been able to maintain a steady starting employment.

He has appeared in 79 career games and completed 61.3 percent of his pass attempts for 10,574 yards, 51 touchdowns, and 23 interceptions. He has also accumulated 915 yards and 15 touchdowns on the run.

At 31 years old, Brissett is clearly not taking this opportunity for granted. He is ready to go out and earn the right to play throughout the 2024 season.

A new age of football is about to begin in New England. Bill Belichick’s days of leading the charge are over. Now, the franchise must figure out how to achieve success in a different way.

Hopefully, Brissett will be able to step in and have a successful season. He worked hard and maintained his faith despite years of not playing much. His moment has come, and he is eager to get to work.
