MASSIVE BOOST: Falcons lose star player for Pittsburgh Steelers game.
The Atlanta Falcons will be without cornerback Antonio Hamilton Sr. against the Pittsburgh Steelers due to a groin injury sustained during the team’s practice this week. He was a surprise non-participant in Atlanta’s practice on Friday and was ruled out on the game status sheet.
Hamilton, a seasoned cornerback, had spent the previous three seasons with the Arizona Cardinals before signing with the Falcons in April. He made the roster as a special teams player and depth cornerback. While Hamilton is not a starter, it is possible that the Falcons will call up one of their practice squad cornerbacks to cover the special teams gap.
Hamilton was an undrafted free agent out of South Carolina State in 2016 and has spent time in the league since then. He has played for the Oakland Raiders, New York Giants, Kansas City Chiefs, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Cardinals, and, most recently, the Falcons. Hamilton, a 6-foot, 195-pound cornerback, can play inside or outside and is the backup slot cornerback to Dee Alford.
The remainder of the Falcons received plenty of encouraging news, including an update on tight end Kyle Pitts, who suffered a hamstring injury earlier this week. He will participate despite the lack of an injury designation.
