BIG NEWS: Browns projected to land intriguing quarterback
The Cleveland Browns are expected to land an intriguing quarterback of the future.
Despite the Cleveland Browns’ early-season problems, the pressure to move on from Deshaun Watson has grown stronger. Fans are becoming increasingly upset with the high-paid quarterback’s inability to lead the team to offensive success.
In the first three games of the season, Watson completed 57.8 percent of his pass attempts for 551 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions. He has also scored a touchdown and gained 85 yards on the ground.
While those numbers aren’t terrible, several of his passes have looked awful. He has struggled to throw the ball down the field, and he does not appear to improve his teammates’ performance.
Fans are fed up with Watson’s ongoing off-field troubles.
Keeping that in mind, The Draft Network has prepared a fresh mock draft in which the Browns select an intriguing quarterback of the future.
In their mock selection, Cleveland would have taken Alabama Crimson Tide standout quarterback Jalen Milroe with the 13th overall choice.
“Deshaun Watson is an expensive problem for the Cleveland Browns, and they must find a way to resolve it. Worst case scenario, he will become the most expensive backup quarterback in league history. Jalen Milroe is absolutely blossoming under Kalen DeBoer’s direction this season, and his transformation has him in the first-round conversation.
Milroe has played three games this college football season, completing 67.3 percent of his throw attempts for 590 yards, eight touchdowns, and no interceptions. He has also accumulated 156 yards and six scores on the ground.
At this moment, he appears to be a serious Heisman Trophy favorite.
While some are afraid that his game may not translate well to the NFL, Milroe has definitely progressed under his new head coach. DeBoer has helped Milroe free up his arm, allowing him to demonstrate more of his high potential.
Adding a quarterback like Milroe would allow the Browns to continue executing their existing offensive scheme. In addition to his arm talent, the Alabama standout can play outside the pocket and with his legs.
It’s certainly only a notion for now, and the draft is a long way off, but it’s an intriguing option.
Should Watson continue to struggle and Cleveland miss the playoffs, a quarterback change is certainly an option. If Milroe is available when the Browns need him, the combo may be a great fit.
That being stated, it will be intriguing to see how Milroe concludes the 2024 season. If he continues to perform at the level he has shown in the first three games, Cleveland should definitely consider him.
