GREAT NEWS: Red Sox star wins prestigious award.
Kristian Campbell appears to be a key element of the Red Sox’s future after a strong 2024 season.
The Boston Red Sox did not qualify for the playoffs in 2024. With an 81-81 record, the Sox have missed the playoffs for the third consecutive year since reaching the ALCS in 2021.
Nonetheless, the future seems promising for Boston thanks to the rise of talented players such as Jarren Duran, Ceddanne Rafaela, and Tristan Casas. Furthermore, the Red Sox farm system has received high praise for producing players such as Marcelo Mayer, Roman Anthony, and Kristian Campbell.
Campbell, in particular, rose to prominence this year. MLB.com recently named the infielder its Minor League Hitting Prospect of the Year.
However, Campbell did a little bit of everything offensively, putting together the finest overall season at the plate in the Minors. Boston’s No. 5 prospect (No. 74 overall) hit.330/.439/.558 with 20 home runs, 94 runs scored, 77 RBIs, and 24 steals over three levels. He topped all Minor Leaguers in total bases with 240 and was among the top performers in a variety of other significant categories.
It will be interesting to see how the Red Sox deal with Campbell going forward. He’s played 19 games in Triple-A, so the team could absolutely start him there in 2024, but would they make a move to help the rest of the roster?
For example, could the team trade Vaughn Grissom because they believe Campbell will be the franchise’s future second baseman? Can they trade Campbell and profit from his growing stock? The Red Sox have serious pitching concerns, and selling a young player could be the best way to address them.
But is Campbell the person they want to move to accomplish it?
It remains to be seen for Chief Baseball Officer Craig Breslow.
