Boston could be on the verge of reclaiming their two-time Silver Slugger
The Boston Red Sox could get a significant boost to their roster sooner than expected.
Two-time All-Star shortstop. Trevor Story appeared to be almost completely recovered from shoulder surgery.
On Wednesday, X released film of Story taking live batting practice at Fenway Park and demonstrating a fluid swing. Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe posted the footage, noting that Story appeared “very comfortable” at the plate.
Could Story return to the diamond this season?
The answer is becoming increasingly clear: yes.
Last Monday, Boston’s manager, Alex Cora, told the media that he is “fully convinced” that Story will return in 2024. Wednesday’s Fenway film only bolstered Cora’s claims.
It’s impossible to say what sort of pain Story is in or what his exact health situation is, but all indications lead to his returning to the lineup this season as the Red Sox battle for a postseason spot.
With Triston Casas also slated to return to Boston shortly (far sooner than Story), the Red Sox lineup might look very different by the end of August, hopefully for the best.
Will rust factor into both players’ re-emergence? Certainly, but Boston can rely on Cora to handle things responsibly.
Story signed a six-year, $140 million contract with the Red Sox in March 2022. Due to injuries, Story has only appeared in 145 games for Boston over the last three seasons.
