3 players Browns could target after Deshaun Watson’s contract move
Following Deshaun Watson’s contract renegotiation, the Cleveland Browns could target these three players.
The Cleveland Browns made a major move last week when they restructured quarterback Deshaun Watson’s contract. This trade provided the organization with a significant amount of cap room.
With the contract transaction, the Browns created $35.832 million in cap space. This gives them more than $62 million in cap space.
Making such an aggressive move immediately made Cleveland fans expect a follow-up move.
Brandon Aiyuk was the first name that came to mind, but he has since received a lucrative contract deal with the San Francisco 49ers. Now the issue is: what other players could the Browns try to sign with all of their cap space?
All that being said, let’s take a look at three players that could be targets for Cleveland in a deal to acquire and extend.
Ja’Marr Chase, WR
Making a trade with a division foe is never easy or inexpensive, but the Browns have been said to be top contenders for Chase if he becomes available.
Chase has been on a spectacular contract holdout with the AFC North foe Cincinnati Bengals. They appear unlikely to want to trade him, but if they are, Cleveland should be interested. This is the most unlikely prospective move, yet it must be included on the list.
Micah Parsons, Linebacker
Next up, the Browns would benefit greatly from acquiring Micah Parsons. He expects a new contract with the Dallas Cowboys, although there have been reports that the two sides have not agreed.
Again, it appears that the Cowboys will sign him to an extension rather than trade him, but the proper offer could persuade Jerry Jones to make a deal. It’s worth considering a deal for Parsons.
Tee Higgins, WR
Another alternative, from the Bengals, would make the most sense.
Tee Higgins is also dealing with a difficult contract issue with the Cincinnati Bengals. The two sides are widely anticipated to part ways next offseason.
Could Cleveland try to acquire him? He’s an elite wide receiver who would immediately elevate the Browns’ offense. The Bengals are also far more likely to deal Higgins to a division opponent than Chase.
