He pointed out that none of the Chelsea players had appealed for a spot-kick, with the official making what Farke considered a soft decision that completely altered the direction of the game.
Farke said on Sky Sports: “It wasn’t even a chance for them, then the referee had the idea to give a penalty, so no one in the stadium was asking for it.
“None of their players was asking for it, but he spotted a situation where he thought he would give a penalty, and then they scored the goal.
Then their players came into the game after half-time, and the whole stadium was relatively quiet for 60 minutes, and of course, all of the momentum was with them.
Leeds fans need a response against Newcastle
Leeds United cannot afford to dwell on the 6-3 loss to Chelsea for too long. It was a hugely frustrating evening, particularly after establishing a 2-0 advantage, but the EFL Cup is now in the past. There is little benefit in allowing the disappointment from Stamford Bridge to carry over into the next fixture.
Daniel Farke must ensure his players recognise what went wrong, especially the defensive errors and the manner in which Leeds surrendered control after the interval. There are important lessons to learn from the defeat, but this is not the moment for confidence to disappear. The reaction will matter far more than the result itself.
Newcastle United now offer Leeds an entirely different test, while playing at Elland Road should provide the squad with a boost. The atmosphere will be crucial, particularly following what unfolded in London. Leeds must begin positively, show belief and remind everyone why they are such a formidable side on home turf.
A convincing display and three points would be the ideal way to put the Chelsea setback behind them. Leeds have no time to dwell on their disappointment; they must regroup and respond.
