BREAKING: Red Sox star Kenley Jansen reveals why he left Boston early
The Boston Red Sox will have to make some painful decisions in the near future.
The 2024 Major League Baseball regular season has ended, and the playoffs are about to begin. Once the World Series ends later this fall, free agency will begin. Boston could lose one of its finest players, as standout closer Kenley Jansen is about to enter free agency.
Jansen was the subject of trade rumors throughout the last year, but the team chose to keep him as they competed for a playoff spot. Jansen will now be a free agent, and it appears unlikely that he will return. There has also been a lot of drama surrounding him lately, since he departed the team early after being placed on the injured list. The star pitcher discussed his early exit with WEEI’s Rob Bradford on the “Baseball Isn’t Boring” show.
“Me and (Alex Cora) have a conversation and I think we both agree of course I had been dealing with my shoulder the last couple of weeks of inflammation and all that so that’s what it was,” said Jansen. “It’s nothing major. We agreed that it was appropriate to put me on the (Injured List) to allow my shoulder to heal, and that’s about it. And when we were eliminated, they agreed I could go home. “No biggie.”
There has been a lot of conjecture about Jansen’s future plans, and it doesn’t sound like he’s staying in Boston.
