Danny Murphy feels the Leeds striker will be disappointed with himself for wasting those opportunities, particularly considering how impressive he has been for the Whites since arriving last season.
He feels missed opportunities can eventually weigh on a player’s mind, with both the individual and the team beginning to lose confidence.
“He would be disappointed because there were really good chances that he had”, Murph said on Match of the Day.
“A player of his quality, and when you don’t take those chances, you feel a little worse.
Leeds have gambled by not signing another striker
Leeds were anticipated to make signing a striker one of their main priorities during the summer, especially after allowing Joel Piroe to join West Ham last month.
However, the Whites opted against bringing in another striker, meaning they are now heavily reliant on Calvert-Lewin to provide the goals following his tally of 14 Premier League goals last season.
The former Everton forward endured spells last season without finding the net, and during those periods, the team struggled to produce goals.
Leeds cannot afford for Calvert-Lewin to endure lengthy stretches of poor form, as they currently lack another dependable goalscorer within their squad.
