Major update on Klay Thompson potentially joining Orlando Magic
Although there is mutual interest between the Orlando Magic and Klay Thompson, Anthony Slater of The Athletic claims that there hasn’t been “no traction” between them.
After 13 seasons, Thompson might be headed out of Golden State. The five-time NBA All-Star may be looking for a new place to call home since negotiations for a new contract have not yet progressed.
On paper, The Magic makes sense as a possible landing place. They have a talented enough squad to give an older player a shot to compete, and they have the cap space to make a transaction happen.
So it wouldn’t be a situation with Thompson stuck on a lousy team in the middle of a rebuild.
Orlando had the fifth-worst 3-point shooting percentage in the NBA last year, at 34.8 percent. If the team want to be competitive, that has to get better.
Thompson is still a superb 3-point shooter despite not being one of the league’s top two-way players any longer. His fifth-best scoring average in the league is 3.5 points per game from beyond the arc.
In addition to helping Orlando shoot better, Thompson would provide a much-needed veteran presence in the locker room.
