In a major move that reconnects the Washington Capitals with one of their most iconic figures, the organization has officially appointed Peter Bondra as its new Managing Director.
Bondra, who spent the majority of his stellar NHL career with the Capitals, remains one of the most beloved players in franchise history. Over 14 seasons in Washington, Bondra recorded 472 goals and 353 assists, becoming the face of the franchise throughout the 1990s and a two-time NHL All-Star. His speed, deadly shot, and passion for the game made him a fan favorite and a symbol of excellence for the Capitals.
The decision to bring Bondra back in a major leadership role signals the franchise’s commitment to deepening its roots and honoring its history while continuing to build for the future. As Managing Director, Bondra will oversee strategic hockey operations, player development initiatives, and serve as a bridge between the organization’s alumni and its current team structure.
“Peter Bondra is a true Capitals legend,” said Capitals owner Ted Leonsis in a statement. “His leadership, experience, and love for this organization make him the perfect person to help guide us into the next era of success. We are thrilled to welcome him back in a new, vital role.”
Bondra, 56, expressed deep emotion and gratitude at the announcement.

After retiring from professional hockey in 2007, Bondra remained active in the hockey world, working in international player development and serving as general manager for the Slovakian national team. His experience both on and off the ice makes him uniquely qualified for his new leadership position with Washington.
