The anticipation for the 2024 college football season is building, but rivalry week is the week that fans look forward to the most. Programs around the country have planned matchups against some of their largest opponents. For South Carolina, it would be the Clemson Tigers. If the Tigers had let it, several adjustments could have been made to this year’s South Carolina vs. Clemson game.

According to reports, Clemson declined to grant the ACC and ESPN’s proposal to move this year’s South Carolina game from Saturday to Friday. This would imply that the game will be played on Black Frida, and Clemson denied the request.

This isn’t the first time a rival has been approached with the similar offer. Georgia and Georgia Tech were posed the same question and decided to move their games to Friday night. However, South Carolina and Clemson will remain on conventional college football Saturday.

Most fans may question why a team would want to move a game from Saturday to Friday, but it makes sense for a team with college football playoff aspirations. Teams that play on Friday will have an extra day of rest before conference championship week, which may be a significant edge over their opponents if they make it to the conference final.
