Saquon Barkley led the Giants to the brink of victory with play after play and hit after hit.
But following the team’s heartbreaking, unbelievable 13–10 overtime defeat to the Jets on Sunday afternoon, all he could think about was one play in particular that he felt he ought to have performed better on.
With 1:14 remaining in the game, Barkley was stopped short of the first-down goal after rushing for 2 yards on a third-and-3 from the Jets’ 19-yard line.
The Giants might have kneeled out the clock with a first down.
Then, rather of going for it on fourth-and-1, head coach Brian Daboll decided to send Graham Gano out for a 35-yard field goal.
Gano missed, and the nightmare for the Giants came to pass.
Barkley admitted, “To be honest, I could have gotten the first down on the play earlier.” “Some other [running] back might be able to get a first down, so I need to drive my feet a little more.”
After third-string quarterback Tommy DeVito had to replace the injured Tyrod Taylor in the second quarter, Barkley placed the Giants offence on his back with a career-high 36 carries for 128 yards in a valiant effort.
