Farke’s Frustration EXPLODES as Melvin Bard Contract Bombshell Emerges – Leeds Fans Need to Know

Melvin Bard has found it difficult to make a significant impression at Leeds United so far.

The French left-back arrived on loan on transfer deadline day to provide cover for Gabriel Gudmundsson.

The latter had injury problems at the beginning of the season, but he has since returned to the squad and restricted the new arrival’s opportunities.

Bard has made just two appearances so far for the Elland Road club, failing to establish himself as a regular starter.

Bard’s first appearance came against Chelsea in the 6-3 Carabao Cup defeat, before he was introduced from the bench during the 4-1 Premier League victory over Newcastle.

MOT Leeds News looks at his contract situation at LS11 after his challenging beginning.

What is Melvin Bard’s contract situation at Leeds?

Bard initially joined on a season-long loan, although he has the possibility of remaining at Leeds beyond that.

If the move proves successful, the Whites have the option to sign the defender permanently for a fee believed to be around £4.3 million next summer.

The 25-year-old earns £45,000 per week in Yorkshire, according to estimates from Valuball.

If Leeds are covering his entire salary, that would amount to approximately £2.3m over the course of the year.

Whether he represents value at that cost is still unclear, but he has already frustrated his manager despite making only two appearances.

How did Bard frustrate Daniel Farke?

Bard frustrated Daniel Farke during his Peacocks debut as the Whites collapsed at Stamford Bridge.

The Athletic’s Beren Cross shared details on X on the night of the match, saying: “Not seen Farke this animated in a long time, Leeds playing really well, but he knows they need to make more of their dominance.

“Seething with Bijol and Muharemovic sleeping in their positioning. Bard and Nmecha have frustrated him in moments, too.

Farke’s annoyance may not have been entirely justified, given the side was heavily rotated for the cup encounter, meaning Bard was not given the ideal conditions to flourish in his first outing.

What has Bard said about Leeds move?

Bard spoke of his enthusiasm when his move was officially announced during the summer.

Speaking to the club’s official media channel, he said: “Super happy to be here.

“I can’t wait to discover the city, the stadium, my teammates as well, and to start playing in front of the fans.

“Leeds is a historic club in the Premier League so it was an easy choice, Leeds has a great history which makes the club an attractive one.

“And the fans, the atmosphere – there are many players that told me that it was hard to play in Elland Road Stadium.

“So, all of this is why I am very happy to be here and what I know about the club and the squad.”

His comments indicate that he would be interested in staying if the chance arises once his initial loan spell comes to an end.

However, for that to become a realistic possibility, he will need to demonstrate his ability on the pitch and persuade Farke that he can be a dependable option within the squad.

There is still considerable time for that to happen, so it would be premature to write him off at this stage.
