Daniel Farke will be counting his lucky stars that Leeds United’s interest in Ermedin Demirovic failed to materialise over the summer.
A number of clubs across Europe were monitoring the 28-year-old striker, who registered 15 goals and four assists for VfB Stuttgart during the 2025-26 campaign.
His form this season has been somewhat disappointing, however. Aside from a hat-trick against Viking in the Champions League, he has managed just one other goal.
The international break could have provided the ideal opportunity for him to rediscover his form and remind clubs exactly what they missed out on during the summer.
Things haven’t gone according to plan for the centre-forward, though, as he has now gone four consecutive games for Bosnia and Herzegovina without finding the net in the Nations League.
Leeds will certainly continue to monitor his displays in case there is renewed interest in the future, but it now appears fortunate that a transfer never came to fruition.
Leeds United avoid potential setback with Ermedin Demirovic
In his most recent outing for Bosnia, Demirovic featured for 78 minutes in a 1-0 victory over Poland, receiving a yellow card before being substituted.
During that spell, he touched the ball only 15 times, completed just five passes, managed one shot off target, and recorded a 0 per cent dribble success rate [FotMob].
His solitary attempt produced an xG of only 0.11, while he won 0 per cent of his ground and aerial duels and committed two fouls, perhaps highlighting his frustration.
With just one attempt on goal, Stuttgart’s reported demand of more than £20million now looks even more significant, meaning Leeds have potentially kept their funds available for another transfer window and can allocate them elsewhere.
Demirovic could still finish the season with around 20 goals or potentially more, but his difficulties on the international stage raise questions over whether he would adapt successfully to the Premier League.
Daniel Farke faces frustrating striker dilemma
The free transfer of Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been a superb piece of business by those behind the scenes at Elland Road, with the striker contributing 19 goals in 46 appearances.
Beyond him, though, Farke does not have an abundance of options. Football Insider understands that Leeds are planning fresh contract negotiations with Lukas Nmecha.
However, Mick Brown told Football Insider that the 27-year-old is “unhappy” in West Yorkshire, seemingly because of his restricted playing time.
Harry Wilson and Noah Okafor are both capable of operating through the middle, but Farke urgently needs another option to provide cover for Calvert-Lewin.
