Boston could see one of its key players return in the near future.
The Boston Red Sox could use a boost as they continue to compete for a playoff place, and they could get one in the near future.
Boston has been without star shortstop Trevor Story since April, when he sustained a shoulder injury that appeared to terminate his season. He has been working hard behind the scenes and may still have a season ahead of him.
The Red Sox could surely use his bat in the middle of the lineup, and they could get it soon, as there is a “real strong chance” he will return this season, according to Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow on WEEI’s “The Greg Hill Show.”
“He continues to make a ton of progress and just being around him in the clubhouse, there’s a different attitude that he’s taking every day,” Breslow told ESPN. “He’s excited to go in and play. (Liam Hendriks) is expected to return sooner, but there’s a good chance Trevor will put on a Red Sox uniform and help us at some point.”
The idea that Story has a possibility of returning this season should give Red Sox fans hope. Boston is three and a half games behind the Kansas City Royals for a playoff place, but their schedule is about to get more difficult. The Red Sox can make up ground, and adding Story to the mix would only help with that.
