adminDerek McInnes has delivered a rallying message to supporters ahead of Celtic’s visit to Ibrox in the Premier Sports Cup.
The Rangers manager wants his team to make full use of the backing from 50,000 supporters inside the stadium, insisting that with their support behind them, Rangers would be “difficult to stop”.
However, McInnes acknowledged that there will be periods when Celtic have the upper hand as he prepared for a fixture he has always wanted the opportunity to manage.
McInnes said: “We’re getting the players right tactically and physically; I think you can impart some knowledge, but players have to live and feel it. I’m really looking forward to managing in a fixture I’ve always wanted to.
“This presents a tough cup tie, but having it at home, 90 minutes from Hampden, three games from silverware. You have to beat good teams to win trophies.
“We’ve got to bring the crowd with us. You won’t win and dominate for 90 minutes; there will be spells [when Celtic dominate]. We need to tap into having the 50,000 behind us.
“Be behind the players, support them, have their backs; don’t be on them. Make it as tough for Celtic as possible. We have our part to play on that. We need to capitalise on good play and chances, give the crowd something to get behind. Then I think the strength of our club can be shown if 50,000 is utilised; it will be difficult to stop.”
