It’s a wise move for Jonah Laulu to “take matters into his own hands.”
Jonah Laulu stated that in order to advance as a defensive lineman, he decided to move from Hawaii to Oklahoma.
Jonah Laulu of Oklahoma remarked that, despite a difficult few years, all the hardship had been worthwhile when he found out he would be selected by the Colts with the No. 234 selection in the seventh round.
“Everybody says, ‘I want to go play in the NFL’ and being one of the guys that gets to do it is just crazy,” Laulu stated. “I’m just very overwhelmed right now.”
Laulu had a difficult journey to the NFL, having to move to a university more than 3,700 miles away and change roles several times while in college.
He made his first commitment to play tight end at the University of Hawaii, where it all started.
But his coaching staff wanted him to switch to defensive end when he arrived on school. Although Laulu claimed that the adjustment was difficult, it improved him.
“I was getting my butt whooped by all these offensive linemen, which really helped me though,” Laulu stated. “You have to experience things in order to learn, and I was undoubtedly experiencing them. being slung around inside and having my butt whooped, so in my second year with them, I improved significantly.”
Laulu claimed he believed the people who took over when Hawaii’s coaching staff departed to pursue another position was not committed to his growth.
